Assessment of Radiation Shielding Effectiveness of Selected Materials

This study assessed the shielding effectiveness of selected materials against ionising radiation. Transmission through slabs of concrete, lead, and water was measured, and attenuation coefficients were estimated. The findings revealed that high-density materials attenuated more effectively per unit thickness, with attenuation following exponential transmission behaviour. The study observed dependence on source and geometry. It recommends material-specific shielding tables for design of radiation protection.
