Comparative Analysis of Democratic Consolidation in Selected African States

This study conducted a comparative analysis of democratic consolidation in selected African states to understand the factors that sustain or erode democracy. Data were gathered through review of governance indicators and interviews with political scientists and civil society actors. The findings revealed that institutional quality, rule of law, free and fair elections, and civic participation significantly influenced consolidation, while incumbency advantage and weak institutions threatened democratic gains. The study observed divergent trajectories across the selected states. It recommends strengthening electoral integrity, checks and balances, and political institutions.
