Design and Implementation of a Student Attendance Management System Using Biometrics
Computer Science — 2024, Undergraduate
This study designed and implemented a Student Attendance Management System that verifies student identity using biometric fingerprints, addressing the limitations of manual attendance registers. The manual system is slow, prone to errors, and susceptible to proxy attendance. The system allows students to register their fingerprints and record attendance electronically, while lecturers and administrators monitor attendance records. Built with PHP and MySQL, the system was evaluated in a classroom setting for accuracy and usability. The findings revealed faster attendance taking, reduced proxy attendance, and reliable attendance records. The study recommends deployment of the system and integration with broader academic records management.
