Development of an Online Voting System for Student Union Elections
Computer Science — 2024, Undergraduate
This study developed an Online Voting System to conduct student union elections securely and efficiently. Manual voting is time-consuming, prone to errors, and vulnerable to manipulation. The system enables eligible voters to cast their votes online, verifies eligibility, and provides auditable and tamper-resistant tallying. Built with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB, the system was designed with security and usability considerations. Evaluation with students and electoral officials demonstrated accurate vote counting, reduced voting time, and improved confidence in the election process. The study recommends adoption of the system with strong security controls and transparency mechanisms.
