Effect of Inspection and Supervision on Teaching Quality in Primary Schools

This study examined the effect of inspection and supervision on teaching quality in primary schools in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted with questionnaires administered to teachers, head teachers, and inspectors. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that regular inspections and supportive supervision improved lesson preparation, instructional delivery, and record keeping, while infrequent and punitive supervision had limited effect. The study observed that inspector visits were irregular and poorly followed up. It recommends regular, supportive inspections and feedback mechanisms.
