Effect of Teacher Recruitment and Retention Policies on Staffing in Public Schools

Educational Management2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the effect of teacher recruitment and retention policies on staffing in public schools in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was conducted with school administrators and teachers using a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that recruitment delays, poor working conditions, and limited career progression significantly contributed to teacher shortages and high turnover, affecting staffing levels and instructional continuity. The study found that retention was higher where incentives and support were adequate. It recommends prompt recruitment, improved conditions of service, and retention strategies.
