Influence of Accreditation on Programme Standards in Nigerian Universities

This study investigated the influence of accreditation on programme standards in Nigerian universities. A structured questionnaire was administered to academic staff and quality assurance officers in selected universities. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that accreditation exercises significantly influenced curriculum review, staff development, and facility improvement as institutions sought to meet prescribed standards, thereby raising programme quality. The study observed that compliance was often reactive around accreditation visits. It recommends continuous quality assurance cultures and strengthening of institutional capacity.
