This study examined the influence of leadership styles on employee performance in selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria. Adopting a survey design, the study collected data from 340 employees through a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that transformational and democratic leadership behaviours were positively associated with employee performance, motivation, and job satisfaction, while autocratic and laissez-faire behaviours were associated with lower performance. A moderate to strong positive relationship was established between supportive leadership styles and employee output. The study also identified poor succession planning and inconsistent leadership as challenges. It recommends the deployment of transformational leadership approaches and the strengthening of leadership development programmes in the public service.
