Influence of Nigerian Politics on State-Local Government Relations
Political Science — 2025, Undergraduate
This study investigated the influence of Nigerian politics on state-local government relations. A descriptive survey design was adopted with questionnaires administered to local government officials, state administrators, and community leaders. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that political centralisation, control of local finances, and partisan considerations significantly shaped state-local relations, often undermining local autonomy and service delivery. The study observed strained relations during election cycles. It recommends constitutional clarity of local government powers, fiscal autonomy, and intergovernmental coordination.
