Assessment of Decentralisation on School-Based Management in Nigeria

Educational Management2025, Undergraduate

This study assessed the effect of decentralisation on school-based management in Nigeria. Data collected through questionnaire administration to school administrators and education officers were analysed together with policy documents. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that decentralised decision-making increased school autonomy in resource use and community engagement, though capacity and accountability gaps limited the benefits. The study observed uneven implementation across states. It recommends capacity building for school managers, clear devolution guidelines, and accountability frameworks.
