Assessment of Electronic Contracts and Their Legal Validity in Nigeria

This study assessed the legal validity of electronic contracts in Nigeria. Statutory provisions, judicial decisions, and questionnaire responses from lawyers and business users were analysed using descriptive methods. The findings revealed that electronic contracts were generally valid and enforceable under existing legal frameworks, though issues of consent, authentication, and jurisdictional disputes created uncertainty. The study observed limited judicial guidance on digital transactions. It recommends legislative clarification, recognition of electronic signatures, and capacity building for courts on digital evidence.
