Assessment of Land Registration Systems on the Security of Title in Nigeria
Law — 2025, Undergraduate
This study assessed the effect of land registration systems on the security of title in Nigeria. Registration records, statutes, and questionnaire responses from landowners and legal practitioners were analysed using descriptive methods. The findings revealed that registration reduced the risk of conflicting claims and facilitated transactions, while incomplete registration, corrupt practices, and administrative delays undermined title security. The study observed significant informal land dealings outside registration. It recommends automated and transparent registration processes, survey standardisation, and public enlightenment.
