Assessment of the National Identity Management System on Public Service Administration in Nigeria

Public Administration2024, Undergraduate

This study examined the role of the National Identity Management System (NIMS) in the administration of the Nigerian public service. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with data collected from 380 respondents comprising public servants and service users through a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that the identity management system has improved the verification of personnel, reduced impersonation and duplicate records, and facilitated more efficient service delivery, although enrolment gaps, infrastructural constraints, and security concerns remain. A statistically significant relationship was established between the use of the identity management system and administrative efficiency. The study recommends accelerated enrolment, enhanced data protection, and stronger inter-agency integration of the identity system.
