Content Analysis of Political Broadcasts During Election Campaigns in Nigeria

Mass Communication2025, Undergraduate

This study conducted a content analysis of political broadcasts during election campaigns in Nigeria to determine their dominant themes and framing patterns. A sample of campaign programmes from selected broadcast stations was drawn and analysed using coding sheets. Data were analysed using frequency counts and percentages. The findings revealed that issue-based discussion was frequently overshadowed by personal attacks, campaign slogans, and appeals to ethnic and regional loyalty. The study also found limited airtime for substantive policy debates. It recommends adoption of stricter campaign broadcasting regulations and encouragement of issue-driven political communication.
