Effect of Commodity Pricing on Farmer Incomes in Nigeria
Agricultural Economics — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the effect of commodity pricing on farmer incomes in Nigeria. Price data from selected markets were analysed together with questionnaires administered to farmers. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that price volatility at harvest and limited price information significantly reduced farm incomes, with farmers often selling at low seasonal prices. The study found that price stabilisation mechanisms were limited. It recommends commodity exchanges, price information systems, and farmer cooperatives to strengthen bargaining power.
