Effect of Consumer Protection Laws on Contractual Practices in Nigeria
Law — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the effect of consumer protection laws on contractual practices in Nigeria. Statutes, enforcement agency records, and questionnaires administered to businesses and consumers were analysed. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that consumer protection legislation improved fairness in goods and service contracts, increased liability for defective products, and enhanced consumer redress, while weak enforcement and low awareness reduced impact. The study observed growing complaints in digital commerce. It recommends stronger enforcement, consumer education, and updated rules for online transactions.
