Effect of Corruption on Efficiency of Public Service Delivery in Nigeria

This study examined the effect of corruption on the efficiency of public service delivery in Nigeria, using the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit framework as a reference. A descriptive survey of 380 public servants and service users was conducted through a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that corruption in its various forms, including bribery, favouritism, embezzlement, and procurement fraud, significantly undermines the speed, quality, and equity of public service delivery. A statistically significant negative relationship was established between perceived corruption and service efficiency. The study also identified weak enforcement and low public trust as compounding factors. It recommends strengthening accountability institutions, enhancing transparency, and promoting a culture of integrity across the public service.
