Role of Public Procurement Reforms in Curbing Corruption in Projects Award in Nigeria

This study examined the role of public procurement reforms in curbing corruption in the award and execution of projects in Nigeria, with reference to the Public Procurement Act and its implementation. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with a structured questionnaire administered to 360 procurement officers, project managers, and contractors in Abuja. The findings revealed that the introduction of competitive bidding, transparency requirements, and procurement oversight has reduced discretionary awards and improved value for money, although non-compliance, weak enforcement, and political interference persist. A statistically significant relationship was established between the enforcement of procurement reforms and the reduction of corruption in project award. The study recommends the strengthening of procurement institutions and the consistent sanctioning of violations.
