Effect of Data Protection Regulation on Digital Privacy in Nigeria

Law2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the effect of data protection regulation on digital privacy in Nigeria. Statutes, compliance reports, and questionnaire responses from data controllers and consumers were analysed. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that data protection frameworks improved consent requirements, security obligations, and accountability for personal data, enhancing privacy practices, while awareness gaps and limited enforcement capacity weakened compliance. The study observed growth in data collection by digital services. It recommends stronger enforcement, industry guidance, and consumer-facing awareness.
