Effect of Guidance and Counselling Services on Student Adjustment in Secondary Schools

Educational Management2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the effect of guidance and counselling services on student adjustment in secondary schools in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted with questionnaires administered to students and counsellors in selected schools. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that counselling services significantly improved students' academic, social, and emotional adjustment, with students who accessed services showing better coping and decision-making. The study found that counsellor shortages and limited integration of services reduced coverage. It recommends strengthening counselling staffing, referral systems, and career guidance.
