Effect of Infection Control Practices on Hospital-Acquired Infections in Nigeria

This study examined the effect of infection control practices on hospital-acquired infections in Nigerian healthcare facilities. A descriptive survey was conducted with nurses and infection control officials and surveillance records were reviewed. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that adherence to sterilisation, waste management, and isolation protocols significantly reduced the incidence of hospital-acquired infections, while lapses in practice and resource shortages increased risk. The study observed weak infection surveillance. It recommends strengthened infection control teams, training, and reliable supplies.
