Effect of Land Tenure Systems on Agricultural Investment in Nigeria
Agricultural Economics — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the effect of land tenure systems on agricultural investment in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was conducted with farmers under different tenure arrangements using a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that secure land rights, including the ability to transfer and use land as collateral, significantly encouraged long-term investment in land improvement and mechanisation, while insecure tenure discouraged investment. The study observed that communal and inheritance arrangements limited individual incentives. It recommends formal land documentation and clearer land rights.
