Effect of Party Finance Regulations on Intra-Party Democracy in Nigeria
Political Science — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the effect of party finance regulations on intra-party democracy in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was conducted with party officials, legal experts, and electoral observers using a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that transparent funding and adherence to finance rules influenced internal contestation, candidate selection, and party accountability, while opaque funding and dominance by moneyed interests undermined internal democracy. The study observed weak enforcement of finance regulations. It recommends stronger disclosure requirements, enforcement, and transparency in party finances.
