Influence of Party Systems on Political Stability in Nigeria
Political Science — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the influence of party systems on political stability in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was conducted with political scientists, party officials, and civil society actors using a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that the conduct of parties, internal cohesion, and electoral rivalry significantly influenced stability, while elite defections, weak party institutionalisation, and electoral disputes heightened instability. The study observed that dominant-party tendencies reduced competition. It recommends stronger party institutionalisation, internal democracy, and electoral dispute resolution.
