Impact of Staff Motivation on Productivity in the Nigerian Civil Service

Public Administration2024, Undergraduate

This study investigated the impact of staff motivation on productivity in the Nigerian civil service, using the Federal Civil Service, Abuja, as the case study. A survey of 350 employees was conducted using a structured questionnaire. The findings showed that remuneration, recognition, opportunities for advancement, and working conditions significantly influenced the morale and output of civil servants. A moderate, positive and statistically significant relationship was established between motivation and productivity. However, delays in promotion, poor conditions of service, and inadequate rewards were identified as persistent demotivating factors. The study recommends a comprehensive review of the reward system and prompt implementation of career development policies.
