Influence of Public Service Reforms on Administrative Efficiency in Nigeria

Public Administration2024, Undergraduate

This study evaluated the influence of public service reforms, including the monetisation policy and pension reforms, on administrative efficiency in the Nigerian public service. The study adopted a survey design with 370 respondents drawn from Federal and State civil servants. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test. The findings revealed that the reforms have improved conditions of service, reduced the size of the public service, and enhanced service delivery in some respects, yet implementation has been inconsistent and marked by resistance, inadequate consultation, and weak institutional capacity. A significant relationship was established between the perception of reforms and administrative efficiency. The study recommends phased, consultative, and well-resourced implementation of future reforms.
