Influence of Early Warning Scoring Systems on the Detection of Clinical Deterioration
Nursing Science — 2025, Undergraduate
This study investigated the influence of early warning scoring systems on the detection of clinical deterioration in hospital wards in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was administered to nurses using early warning tools and patient records were reviewed. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that structured early warning scoring improved the timely recognition of deteriorating patients and enabled earlier intervention, while inconsistent documentation reduced its effectiveness. The study observed training and compliance gaps. It recommends standardised scoring protocols, staff training, and monitoring of tool use.
