Influence of Family Involvement on the Care of Older Adults in Long-Term Care Settings
Nursing Science — 2025, Undergraduate
This study investigated the influence of family involvement on the care of older adults in long-term care settings in Nigeria. Questionnaires were administered to caregivers, nursing staff, and family members using a structured tool. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that regular family visits, involvement in care decisions, and communication with staff significantly enhanced the emotional wellbeing and quality of care of older residents, while family absence increased loneliness. The study observed gaps in family-nurse communication. It recommends structured family engagement and shared care planning.
