Influence of Hand Hygiene Compliance on Infection Rates in Healthcare Facilities
Nursing Science — 2025, Undergraduate
This study investigated the influence of hand hygiene compliance on infection rates in healthcare facilities in Nigeria. Observation checklists and questionnaires administered to healthcare workers were used to examine compliance and infection outcomes. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings revealed that higher hand hygiene compliance significantly reduced healthcare-associated infections, while gaps in practice, particularly at moments of care, increased risk. The study observed that availability of sinks and sanitisers influenced compliance. It recommends continuous training, adequate supplies, and monitoring of hand hygiene behaviours.
