Influence of Open Government Data Initiatives on Transparency in Public Administration

Public Administration2024, Undergraduate

This study examined the influence of open government data initiatives on transparency in public administration in Nigeria. Anchored on the Open Government Data and Accountability frameworks, the study adopted a survey design with 350 respondents comprising civil servants, journalists, and civil society actors. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test. The findings revealed that the publication and accessibility of government data have improved public scrutiny, accountability, and informed decision-making, although the volume, quality, and timeliness of published data remain uneven across agencies. A significant relationship was established between open data practices and the perceived transparency of public administration. The study recommends the adoption of uniform data standards, capacity building, and active citizen engagement.
