Influence of Professional Development on Teacher Effectiveness in Secondary Schools

Educational Management2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the influence of professional development on teacher effectiveness in secondary schools in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was administered to teachers participating in training programmes and their heads. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that continuous professional development, including workshops, mentoring, and peer learning, significantly improved teaching methods, subject mastery, and student engagement. The study found that training was irregular and poorly aligned with classroom needs. It recommends needs-based, sustained professional development and evaluation of training impact.
