Cost and Returns Analysis of Crop Production Enterprises in Nigeria

Agricultural Economics2025, Undergraduate

This study conducted a cost and returns analysis of crop production enterprises in Nigeria. Data were collected from farmers of selected food crops using a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and gross margin analysis. The findings revealed that variable costs such as seed, fertiliser, and labour dominated production costs, with profitability varying across crops and seasons. The study found that output price volatility and input costs significantly affected farm profit margins. It recommends cost-reducing technologies, stable input supply, and better market information.
