Determinants of Technical Efficiency in Rice Production in Nigeria
Agricultural Economics — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the determinants of technical efficiency in rice production in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was administered to rice farmers in major producing areas and data were analysed using stochastic frontier analysis. The findings revealed that farm size, access to credit, education, and input use significantly influenced technical efficiency, with many farmers operating below the efficiency frontier. The study observed that adoption of improved seed and fertiliser raised efficiency. It recommends credit access, extension support, and training to close the efficiency gap.
