Effect of Financial Literacy on the Investment Decisions of Retail Investors in Nigeria

Business Administration2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the effect of financial literacy on the investment decisions of retail investors in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was conducted with a sample of retail investors participating in the Nigerian capital market. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that knowledge of risk, returns, and diversification significantly improved the quality of investment decisions and reduced impulsive trading. However, many investors reported limited awareness of product features and regulation. The study recommends broader investor education programmes, clearer product disclosures, and increased access to independent financial advice.
