Effect of Leadership Styles on Employee Motivation in Selected Retail Organisations
Business Administration — 2025, Undergraduate
This study investigated the effect of leadership styles on employee motivation in selected retail organisations in Abuja, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted with a questionnaire administered to frontline staff and supervisors. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that transformational and participative leadership styles had a significant positive effect on employee motivation, while purely autocratic styles were associated with lower engagement. The study identified inconsistent supervision and limited autonomy as key challenges. It recommends that retail managers adopt leadership approaches that empower staff, recognise effort, and involve employees in decision-making.
