Effect of Lean Manufacturing Techniques on Waste Reduction in Selected Food Processing Companies
Business Administration — 2025, Undergraduate
This study investigated the effect of lean manufacturing techniques on waste reduction in selected food processing companies in Lagos, Nigeria. A mixed-methods approach combining questionnaires and interviews with operations staff was adopted. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings revealed that just-in-time delivery, standardised work, and 5S housekeeping significantly reduced material and time waste and improved throughput. The study, however, found that inconsistent enforcement of lean standards limited gains in some plants. It recommends sustained training, management commitment, and periodic measurement of key waste indicators.
