Impact of Agricultural Credit on the Output of Smallholder Farmers in Nigeria
Agricultural Economics — 2025, Undergraduate
This study examined the impact of agricultural credit on the output of smallholder farmers in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was administered to farmers who accessed credit and those who did not. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that access to credit significantly enabled the purchase of inputs, expansion of cultivated area, and adoption of improved practices, leading to higher output. The study, however, found that interest rates, collateral requirements, and delays discouraged formal borrowing. It recommends affordable credit, simplified lending procedures, and improved rural financial access.
