Impact of Fertiliser Subsidy Programmes on Adoption and Productivity in Nigeria

This study examined the impact of fertiliser subsidy programmes on adoption and productivity among farmers in Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was administered to beneficiary and non-beneficiary farmers. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that access to subsidised fertiliser increased application rates and crop yields, although late delivery, diversion, and limited coverage reduced programme effectiveness. The study observed that subsidies alone could not address soil fertility challenges. It recommends efficient targeting, timely delivery, and complementary soil management programmes.
