Impact of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Programs on Entrepreneurship in South-West Nigeria

Business Administration2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the impact of small and medium enterprise (SME) development programmes on entrepreneurship in South-West Nigeria. A survey of SME owners and operators who participated in public and private support programmes was conducted. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that access to finance, business training, and mentorship significantly improved business survival and growth. However, weak coordination of programmes, bureaucratic bottlenecks, and limited follow-up support reduced their overall impact. The study recommends harmonised support frameworks, stronger monitoring, and sustained post-training assistance for entrepreneurs.
