Influence of Land Use Change on Food Security in Nigeria

Agricultural Economics2025, Undergraduate

This study examined the influence of land use change on food security in Nigeria. Land cover data and questionnaire responses from farming households were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that conversion of farmland to residential and commercial uses and cropping pressure reduced agricultural land availability and food production, increasing household food insecurity. The study observed competition between urban expansion and farming. It recommends land use planning, protection of agricultural land, and productivity enhancement.
