Influence of Media Framing on Public Perception of Security Issues in Nigeria

Mass Communication2025, Undergraduate

This study investigated the influence of media framing on public perception of security issues in Nigeria. A survey was conducted among media consumers in selected urban centres using a structured questionnaire, complemented by analysis of news content. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The findings revealed that the framing of security events, including the choice of words and visual emphasis, significantly shaped perceptions of threat and confidence in security agencies. Sensationalised reporting was associated with heightened fear. The study recommends responsible, factual reporting on security matters and improved media literacy among the public.
