This study investigates mother-Tongue Explanation of Mathematics Word Problems in rural secondary schools in Aba. Using a survey research design, data were collected from 186 principals in rural secondary schools in Aba. Findings reveal that native-language restatement unlocks word problems The study recommends use of activity-based and improvisation methods in science lessons
