Development of an Expert System for Medical Diagnosis Support in Rural Health Centres

This study developed an Expert System for Medical Diagnosis Support targeted at rural health centres where qualified medical personnel are scarce. Using a rule-based knowledge base of symptoms and diseases, the system guides health officers through structured diagnosis and suggests probable conditions with recommended actions. The system was built with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB after eliciting knowledge from medical practitioners. Evaluation results showed that the system produced accurate suggestions on test cases and reduced the time required to reach a working diagnosis. The study recommends deployment alongside proper medical oversight and regular updating of the knowledge base.
