Effectiveness of Crisis Communication Strategies in Managing Organisational Reputation in Nigeria

Mass Communication2025, Undergraduate

This study investigated the effectiveness of crisis communication strategies in managing organisational reputation in Nigeria. A descriptive survey was conducted with public relations officers and members of the public who had observed corporate crises. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings revealed that timely response, transparency, and apology-based strategies significantly mitigated reputational damage, while silence and deflection worsened public perception. The study also found that many organisations lacked formal crisis communication plans. It recommends proactive crisis preparedness, designated spokespersons, and rapid, honest communication during incidents.
